The Ovens River’s journey begins in the Victorian Alps, through the Ovens Valley and flows past Bright, Myrtleford and Wangaratta where it joins the King River.

The wetlands provide perfect conditions for native fish, such as the iconic Murray Cod, and freshwater turtles to thrive. It is also home to threatened and endangered wildlife including the Powerful Owl and Squirrel Glider.

Vibrant red gum forests and wetlands of the heritage-listed Lower Ovens are nourished by the river’s high natural flows.

With shady banks and sandy beaches, the Ovens River is popular for families, swimming, canoeing, camping and fishing.
