Erin Conron is an Australian glass artist whose practice explores the intersection of form, surface and light through both kiln-formed and blown glass processes. Born and raised in Canberra, Erin completed an Honours degree in Glass at the Australian National University in 2008. Now based on the Sunshine Coast, she continues to evolve her practice from her purpose-built studio in Verrierdale, where she lives with her husband and two daughters.
Her work is a continual investigation into how perception can be manipulated through layered surface design. The lines, hand-applied in enamel through multiple kiln-firings, build visual tension between flatness and dimensionality, echoing principles of moiré and spatial distortion. While grounded in glassmaking traditions, her works intentionally blurs the boundaries between object and image, inviting stillness and slow viewing.
She is particularly drawn to the illusion of interior space, and how the surface of glass can be activated to suggest volume within. The layering of linear marks is a deliberate attempt to evoke depth that does not physically exist, offering a quiet challenge to the viewer's expectations of material and form and asks how we see, and how easily our understanding of space can be reframed through surface and light.
