How many wine regions are there in Victoria, Australia?

For a small state, Victoria packs a punch with 22 diverse wine regions. After South Australia and New South Wales, Victoria is the third largest producer of wine in Australia. As of January 2023, there were 770 registered grape growers across the state, so wine lovers certainly have plenty of choice.

What is the oldest winery in Victoria?

Yering Station in the Yarra Valley is touted as Victoria’s oldest winery given it was the first vineyard planted back in 1838. The vines were first planted by the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers and the name was taken from the traditional name the First Nations people had for the land: Yering. There are two theories about what this word means: either wattle scrub or a deep pool that was on the Ryrie brothers’ land.

What are the best winery restaurants in Victoria?
