Environmental Impact

We are committed to responsible electricity use to reduce our environmental impact.

By managing our energy consumption carefully, we help conserve resources and limit the strain on the planet. Sustainable energy practices are central to our efforts, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings without unnecessary depletion of resources.

From the way we manage waste and water to how we power the park, everything we do is designed to protect the natural beauty around us.

Discover the steps we’re taking to preserve this special place for generations to come.

Sustainable Building Practices

Our cabins and camping pods are designed with sustainability at their core, providing a comfortable stay while minimizing environmental impact. We carefully select eco-friendly materials, ensuring a low carbon footprint.

  • All cabins built in the last 10 years feature double-glazed windows, double-insulated walls, ceilings, and insulated floors—helping to reduce energy use while keeping you cozy.
  • Additionally, each cabin is equipped with water-saving taps, efficient toilets, and heaters with timers, so you can relax knowing your stay is both comfortable and eco-friendly.

Energy Efficiency & Solar Power

Bimbi Park runs on less than three house supplies! This made energy efficiency to not compromise on our guest’s comfort an absolute necessity. It was difficult but we did it and are very proud of it.

Here are some of the steps we’ve taken to conserve energy for our future;

  • Lighting: One of the first things we tackled was switching all lighting from incandescent bulbs to LEDs. For instance, in the toilet block alone, we reduced our energy consumption from 60 bulbs at 80 watts each to 60 bulbs at just 10 watts each. That’s a drop from 4800 watts to just 600 watts. We applied the same upgrades in the camp kitchen, around the park and our existing cabins, vans and bunk rooms.
  • Cabins: Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at lighting. All new cabins at Bimbi Park are built with the environment in mind, and our latest five cabins are entirely solar-powered, meaning they don’t draw from the grid at all. They have double-glazed windows, double-insulated walls and ceilings, and insulated floors. All appliances are high star rated. Moving forward, we plan to only install solar-powered cabins and accommodation.
  • Heaters: We’re mindful of the environmental impact of energy use, especially when it comes to heating. Heating can consume a significant amount of power, much of which is still sourced from fossil fuels. To reduce unnecessary energy consumption and minimize our carbon footprint, we’ve installed timers on our heaters. This ensures they’re only on when needed, helping conserve energy and protect the surrounding environment. It’s one of the many steps we take to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly park for future generations.
  • Light Sensors & Timers: We’ve installed motion and light sensors at our amenities block to ensure both energy efficiency and guest comfort. For safety, a basic lights remain on, but when you approach, the area lights up fully, making your experience more convenient. Our system is designed to activate automatically when the sun sets, and deactivates when the sun rises, thanks to a sensor outside that triggers the lights only when needed. This setup helps us reduce unnecessary electricity use while maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for our guests.
  • Appliances: All commercial refrigeration, water pumps, kitchen appliances both house hold and commercial are energy efficient. Nothing is introduced to Bimbi Park without thoroughly checking it’s energy efficiency.

Water Conservation

By harvesting rainwater and utilizing a natural slow spring, we responsibly manage our water resources to reduce waste and environmental impact.

Our efficient system, ensures minimal water usage while still providing comfort for our guests. Committed to eco-friendly tourism, Bimbi Park’s water conservation efforts help protect the local environment and preserve resources for future generations. We added 500,000 litres of water tanks and connected all our roofs to collect rainwater, and implemented lots or water saving measures, which saves us about 4 million litres per year.

Here are some of the steps we’ve taken to conserve this valuable resource;

  • Shower Heads and Timers: When we renovated the amenities block we upgraded all the shower heads to 7.5lt/m and added token-operated timers which give you 3 minutes. To start, we provide one token per person, and if you need more, they’re available for $1 each. You can purchase them at reception or from a change machine located in the amenities block.
  • Waterless Urinals: Originally we had a stainless steel trough urinal. It used 15lt per flush. We replaced it with waterless Uridan urinals.
  • Water Restricted Hand Basin Taps: Originally we had 15lt/m basin taps. They have all been replaced with 9lt/m taps.
  • Front Loader Washing Machines: We replaced all our washing machines from top loaders to front loaders.
  • Dual Flush Toilets: We replaced all our toilets from single flush 11lt/flush to dual average 4.5lt/flush.
  • Rain Water Harvesting: We plumbed all our building roofs to collect rainwater. It is filtered and stored for use in the campground. We also have a special tank where the water is filtered and U.V. sterilized for you to fill drink bottles from, it’s out front of reception.

Recycling and Responsible Waste Managment

At Bimbi Park, we prioritize recycling and responsible waste management to protect our environment and keep our park beautiful. At our 4 bin areas, please use the yellow-lidded bins for recyclables, the red-lidded bins for general landfill waste, and place food scraps in the green-lidded bins or feed them to our chickens. Your efforts help us maintain a clean and enjoyable environment for everyone.

There's plenty more we do to better our environmental impact in our park, come visit us and see how we do it!
