Oak Forest Harcourt


Mystery and adventure await the family in the great outdoors under the canopy of the huge Oak Forest with other worldly ambiance you could be forgiven in thinking you were taking part in a major Hollywood film. The adventure starts as you climb your way up to the Oak Forest. Imagine you are in a mythical movie hunting for creatures behind the trees or in a dreamy fairy-tale seeking the bright polka dot mushrooms. The oak forest has many different aspects to it depending on the season. You can pack the picnic basket and have a full day in the forest. For those wanting to test their grit there is the world class La Larr Ba Gauwa mountain bike trails, otherwise a family hiking trip through the forest might just be on the cards.

Melville Caves


Take a step back in time and follow in the footsteps of the bushranger Captain James Melville Caves is only a 45-minute drive from Bendigo and located just outside of Inglewood (an antique lover’s dream town!). Play hide and seek in one of the many caves just like the bushranger Captain James Melville. As you meander through the paths up to the look out you may even find aboriginal art from the Jaara Jaara Aboriginal people who used the caves for shelter and to gather water. With picnic areas at the base and on top of the caves there is plenty of room for the family to spread out. Also take the opportunity to get some great family photos with the scenic backgrounds in abundance.

One Tree Hill Lookout

Set off on a short drive to the foot of One Tree Hill. Hike, cycle or drive to the top, the choice is yours. As you wind your way to the top keep an eye out for the wild fauna, lace monitors, box and iron bark trees, colourful wildflowers, wild orchids and daisies. Atop the tower as you take in the stunning views and local landmarks you can start to contemplate your next adventure on the large directions dial.
