Bunurong Environment Centre

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The Bunurong Environment Centre in Inverloch offers three separate attractions for visitors.
Inverloch
The Inverloch Shell Museum began as a private collection and was later donated to Bass Coast Shire. It features thousands of specimens found locally and across the Pacific and is open to the public for a $2 donation.

The Discovery Room displays information about current projects and also the ever-popular dinosaur fossils which generations of children have enjoyed, as well as crayons, books and puzzles for children and a small library of reference books for adults.

Lastly, there is a specialty shop stocking books on environmental issues, gardening, wildlife, science, paleontology, astronomy etc. as well as local crafts, gift items and sustainable home wares.

Ask a volunteer for a pamphlet or map to direct you to the natural attractions along the Bunurong Coast or, if you would like a guided visit to fossil sites, or to learn about life on their seashores, local wildlife, the night sky, enquire on the website or book a school holiday program, details are on-line and advertised around the town and at local accommodation venues.

The Bunurong and Cape Liptrap Coastal Parks offer unique geological features and an environment rich in natural vegetation, bird and other animal life. At the Dinosaur Dreaming Dig site new rock surfaces are constantly exposed and you might make the next fossil discovery.
