Operating since 1976, Coober Pedy Opal Fields Golf Club, has been voted in the top 10 most unique golf courses in the world, with white fairways and black putting greens!
There is no grass on this unique course, that traverses the rocks and scrub. The tees are topped with artificial turf, the fairways are covered with local white sandstone and the greens are called scrapes and are a mixture of local quarry dust mixed with waste oil, making a suitable surface for putting.

Expanded to a full 18 holes in 1996, the extensions were designed by professional golfer Dennis Ingram. There are even special local rule called “rock relief”!

Guests are welcome at this friendly club for a Sunday 1pm tee-off, or by organising through the current golf club sponsor. Green fees are $10 per round and $10 for club hire (2020 prices, subject to change).

You might even be lucky enough to find an opal while playing a round of golf!
